Thousands of pastors and priests in Canada united to denounce controversial new legislation that calls biblical morality a “myth” and bans traditional teachings on sexuality.

On Sunday, January 16, thousands of Christian preachers came together to denounce in their sermons that biblical morality is under attack and criminalized in Canada under new legislation Bill C-4, known as the “conversion therapy” ban.

In this context, Canadian pastors and priests pledged to defend biblical teaching on sexuality in response to the passage of Bill C-4, and proposed to use their sermons on Sunday, January 16, to inform and raise awareness of this situation among the religious community, reported Fox News.

The initiative was launched by the Liberty Coalition of Canada and in turn was also replicated in the United States by Pastor John MacArthur of Los Angeles, which allowed at least 4,000 Christian pastors to publicly enact their will to protest against the legislation.

Pastors of evangelical churches in Canada wrote a statement which was published by Liberty Coalition of Canada:

“This bill’s wording is sufficiently broad to allow for the criminal prosecution of Christians who would speak biblical truth into the lives of those in bondage to sexual sins like homosexuality and transgenderism,” the statement reads.

The controversial legislation, which came into force on January 8 after being fast-tracked through the Canadian Parliament in December, without even going through a debate process, describes as a “myth” the belief that heterosexuality and cisgender identity are preferable.

Those who do not align with such an interpretation and give public advice following its ideals could now face a five-year jail sentence.

The statement released by the pastors takes aim at the lawmakers who allowed the law to pass saying:

“Our King and Head is greatly displeased with our MPs for their sinful disregard for the spiritual and eternal well-being of Canadians. But it is important to note that they have also committed high blasphemy by referring to biblical teaching as ‘myths’ in this legislation. We all must therefore tremble to consider what terrifying judgments will be visited upon our nation for this bold gesture of hatred towards the most high God.”

With the coming into force of Bill C-4, Canada’s legal system now designates all biblical teaching on sexuality and gender as a kind of “myth.”

This implies that when biblical doctrine is promoted and shared, it can even be punished with effective imprisonment for those who promulgate it since, from now on, it is officially considered harmful to society.
