According to San Jose police, a woman was arrested after a Christmas morning street brawl in which she reportedly ran over and killed a man who shot her relative moments earlier.
Sabrina Marie Gutierrez, 22, of San Jose, was arrested on suspicion of murder and is being held without bail in the Elmwood women’s jail in Milpitas, according to prison records.
Police said a frenzied encounter that began about 2:15 a.m. capped the fatal car accident as two men confronted each other on the sidewalk on Wednesday. Police said one of the men pulled a gun out and shot the other.
The shooter ran off, and Sgt. Enrique Garcia said the wounded man jumped into a car that he took to a hospital.
Soon after the shooting, in her own car, Gutierrez, a relative of the wounded man who was at the altercation scene, went after the shooter.
She “drove her vehicle onto the sidewalk and struck the male shooting suspect as he ran away,” Garcia wrote in a statement.
Gutierrez then was located and arrested by homicide detectives Wednesday night.
The man Gutierrez is accused of hitting died at the hospital. He will not been named until his next kin has been officially identified and notified. It is hoped that the man who was wounded in the shooting would survive his wounds.
After being alerted by a silent burglar alarm, the police initially went to the scene and were then flagged down by a bystander who led them to the unconscious man allegedly hit by Gutierrez. Then the police determined that the accident followed the shooting and found a loaded firearm lying next to the seriously injured man.
