Waymo just announced that their self-driving cars will log seven million test miles by the end of this week.
The company is testing self-driving cars in several states: Washington, California, Texas, Georgia, Michigan, and Arizona.
The Waymo vehicle is equipped with sensors and software that are designed to detect pedestrians, cyclists, other vehicles, and everything else that is happening 360 degrees around the car in the radius of three football fields.
For more than a year, residents of the Phoenix, Arizona area have been able to apply to participate in Waymo’s early rider program and test out one of their vehicles on the road for free, according to CNBC.
The company has already accepted about 400 people out of more than 20,000 applicants and received helpful feedback.
