While Democrats focus their immigration strategies on hate and name calling to get people excited, the president reminded reporters on Friday, July 12, that the mission of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement or ICE is to protect Americans, openly enforce the law, and either put criminals in prison or send therm back to their country of origin.
U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) said, “We will end the hatred. We will end the xenophobia that currently exists in this country. U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren, (D-Mass.) said, “This is not about trying to find out real information about citizenship and noncitizenship in America. This is just about trying to stir up some more hate. To try to get more people excited.” Speaking of President Trump, Democrat Julian Castro said “He likes to act like a bully and talk tough. But his actions always show that he’s weak. He’s erratic and he’s weak and this is another example of that.”
President Donald Trump said, “We’re not giving warnings, no we’re not giving warnings. There’s nothing to be secret about. Can I tell you what? There’s nothing to be secret about ICE (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement) is law enforcement. They’re great patriots. They have a tough job. Nothing to be secret about. If the word gets out, it gets out because hundreds of people know about it. It’s a major operation. So the word gets out it gets out. It starts on Sunday and they’re going to take people out and they’re going to bring them back to their countries or they’re going to take criminals out, put them in prison or put them in prison in the countries they came from. We’re focused on criminals as much as we can.”
While reiterating the need for Democrats to change laws like addressing the Flores Settlement Agreement, asylum loopholes, and other statutory and judicial constraints that incentivize making the dangerous journey to the United States from Central America, the Democrats dig in, resist, and instead propose laws that hamper law enforcement while the president tells reporters that ICE will move forward with a nationwide enforcement operation over the weekend targeting illegal alien criminals like MS13 gang members. Here’s Democratic San Francisco Mayor Loudon Breed, Democratic U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut and then President Trump.
Mayor Breed said, “We have been and will continue to be a sanctuary city despite what we know are challenges that we continue to face from this administration and the White House.” Senator Blumenthal said “Yesterday, I introduced and today I’m announcing legislation that I hope will be expedited to embody in federal law, protections against sweeps affecting sensitive locations. The policy of this administration, as past administrations, is supposed to be that there can be no arrests in churches, schools, doctor’s offices, courthouses and other sensitive locations.”
President Trump said, “People come into our country illegally we’re taking them out legally. It’s very simple. It’s not something I like doing. But people have come into our country illegally. We’re focused on criminals. We’re focused on—if you look at MS13, but when people come into our country we take those people out and we take them out very legally. They all have papers. And it’s a process. And I have an obligation to do it. They came in illegally. They go out legally. What the Democrats should be doing now is they should be changing the loopholes. They should be changing asylum. I’ve been talking to that, to you about this for a long time. They should be changing asylum.”
