Senator Cruz (R-Tex.) harshly criticized Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi, whom he accuses of trying to direct public money to the tune of $3 trillion to her friends and not doing anything to alleviate the crisis.

Speaking to CBS, Cruz criticized Pelosi and the House Democrats for pushing a package of measures to combat the effects of the CCP Virus that focuses on “shoveling cash at the problem and shutting America down.”

Cruz expressed concern about the crisis facing the United States. He pointed to two structural problems to focus on: the pandemic caused by the CCP Virus that has left more than 600,000 people dead worldwide. And the other an absolute economic catastrophe within the United States that’s also a result of the pandemic. According to the senator, Nancy Pelosi does not seem to be focused on either problem.

The Republican senator is convinced that the solution will come when people get back to work, therefore reviving the economy. Instead, he argues, the Democrats intend to generate $3 trillion in spending for the state to keep people out of work.

Senate and White House Republicans spent last week negotiating the new package of measures to cushion the effects of the CCP virus on both the economy and society. While there is still no absolute consensus among Republicans on the specific measures, there is an agreement that the package should disburse about $1 trillion and not the $3 trillion that the Democrats want.

Over the weekend, White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin returned to the Capitol for more talks with Senate staff. Mnuchin told Fox News in an interview Sunday that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell will reveal the details on Monday.

One of the most critical issues still being discussed by Republicans and Democrats is the expiration of the improved unemployment insurance that began to disappear this weekend. Democrats want the new package to keep the $600 weekly benefit to beneficiaries. At the same time, Republicans want it to be reduced, arguing that many Americans get more money from unemployment insurance than their old salaries, creating a disincentive for people to work.

“Of course, they won’t come back because the federal government is paying them, in some instances, twice as much money to stay home,” he said.

Congress should focus on dealing with a recovery bill that would encourage Americans to return to work, Ted Cruz continued. And, in turn, ease taxes and regulations on small businesses.

“The only objective Democrats have is to defeat Donald Trump, and they’ve cynically decided the best way to defeat Donald Trump is shut down every business in America, shut down every school in America,” Senator Cruz said.
