President Donald Trump on Sunday, July 28, highlighted the extraordinary unemployment figures of the African American community, “the lowest in the history of the United States.”
“Under the Trump Administration, African American unemployment is the lowest (best) in the history of the United States. No president has come close to doing this before,” Trump said on Twitter.
“I also created successful Opportunity Zones,” Trump said in reference to the initiative launched in April by his administration to reactivate economically marginalized areas of the country.
Trump’s plan includes tax breaks and special treatments for companies that invest in those areas and maintain their investment for at least 10 years, Bloomberg said.
“Investors previously shied away from developing distressed areas,” Trump said according to the same media, “but when they see tax rates all the way down to a big, fat, beautiful number of zero they start liking the location.”
Trump also wanted to use the occasion to close the intense debate that occurred this weekend in relation to his comments on the poor management of Baltimore’s Democratic representative, African American Elijah Cummings.
“Waiting for Nancy [Pelosi, Speaker of the House] and Elijah [Cummings, Democratic legislator for Baltimore] to say, “Thank you, Mr. President,” President Trump wrote.
Last week, Cummings had questioned border conditions and overcrowded facilities.
He criticized the lack of basic humanitarian aid, such as sanitation, and addressed immigration officials with sarcasm, saying, “You feel like you’re doing a great job, right?” according to UPI.
President Trump responded to these statements by reminding Cummings that the district he represents, Baltimore, is the most dangerous in the country.
“Baltimore, under the leadership of Elijah Cummings, has the worst crime statistics in the nation. 25 years of all talk, no action,” the president explained on Twitter.
A large number of Internet users showed their support for the president’s words.
“Only 14% of kids are proficient in math in Cummings district. The crime rate has been higher than ever. These Democrats are worried about kids at the border instead of kids at their district! NO MORE! PUT AMERICA FIRST!” an African American citizen said on Twitter.
“Educated blacks are the Democrats’ greatest fear because they worry such blacks will realize that 60 years of monolithic voting have gotten them nothing. Malcolm X warned blacks 54 years ago to make the dems earn their votes. Too bad his advice was not heeded,” said another user of Twitter.
