Authorities announced they found a 5-year-old New Mexico girl who was reported missing Sunday.
Frank Fisher, a representative for the FBI, said Renezmae Calzada’s body was found in the Rio Grande in Española around noon on Wednesday, Sept. 11. Her remains have been sent to the Office of the Medical Investigator to determine how she died.
Authorities say Renezmae was last seen outside her home in Española on Sunday morning, and she was reported missing that evening. Authorities have not explained why there was a delay.
Crews had entered their fourth day of searching for Renezmae when they made the heartbreaking discovery.
FBI Special Agent James Langenberg said the search for the girl included Española and 2 miles of the Rio Grande.
Previously, authorities said they arrested a person who may have been connected to Renezmae’s case, but that person had not been identified as a suspect.
“I can assure you this investigation has not stopped,” Langenberg said. “We’ll continue to work until we can identify the responsible party for Renezmae.”
