Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said he is certain the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) deceit and coverup of the CCP Virus will have serious repercussions for it, and the rest of the world will hold it responsible for the untold damage it has caused.
I think the notion that we can force them to pay money is a difficult one to enforce,” Rubio told Fox News anchor Bret Baier. “But I have no doubt in my mind that the entire world—irrespective of what they’re saying publicly—are going to be re-evaluating their relationship with China … I think there will be consequences diplomatically, economically, and beyond.”
“If China [CCP] had acted appropriately three weeks earlier than they did, this could very well have been contained in China geographically,” Rubio said. “Instead, not only did they lie about it, not only did they tell doctors who knew about it not to talk about it—including one who lost his life—but they also bullied countries. They pressured countries into leaving flights [from China] open. And that allowed it to spread around the world.”
Rubio also made the point, “I always want to remind everyone that the Chinese people are by far the biggest victims of the Chinese Communist Party.”
The senator said now is the time for many industries to return to America as relying on China is dangerous, he has been making this point for over a year. “It’s something that we should be doing anyway,” Rubio said. “I’ve been talking about this now for a year and a half. If you rely on a potential adversary for the needs of your economy, you give them tremendous leverage over you.”
American companies should return to the US
Rubio continued, “We need, at a minimum, to do what we can to incentivize the return of some of those industries to the United States … to ensure that at a time of crisis we don’t have a Chinese Communist Party threatening to or cutting us off of something that we need.”
Rubio’s warning also includes CCP’s ability to paralyze the United States as it has infiltrated the country with its technology.
“Imagine if, on the eve or on the verge of a conflict, we are aware of their ability to, or they demonstrate their ability to, deny a significant number of Americans access to their banking information, their telecommunications, their internet connectivity, the mass transit system of a major city, or a combination of all of these, [or] a utility network?” Rubio said in February, reported the Washington Examiner.
“Our knowledge that they can threaten the mass transit system of a city, the banking sector, the communications systems, provides them extraordinary leverage that would not even require them to shoot a single rocket or fire a single bullet,” Rubio said.
However, other countries are not so willing to ban high-risk telecommunications companies.
The British Prime Minister Boris Johnson gave his approval for Huawei 5G to be used, placing the economy before national security risks.
“The Chinese can peel away an ally merely using finance,” retired Air Force Gen. Rob Spaulding, who helped draft President Trump’s national security strategy, told the Washington Examiner. “They don’t need to roll tanks down the streets of Czechoslovakia like the Soviets did.”
