House Republican Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and Rep. David Kustoff introduced a bill to prevent anti-Semitic hate crimes amid a wave of violent attacks against Jews in the U.S. following the outbreak of a new 11-day conflict between Israel and Hamas.

The bill titled the Anti-Semitic Hate Crimes Prevention Act, if passed, would direct the Justice Department to assign an official to expedite a review of reported anti-Semitic hate crimes over the next three years. It would also require the attorney general to issue periodic reports to Congress.

As reported by Fox News, Representatives McCarthy and Kustoff’s legislation also seeks to eliminate the 10-year maximum penalty for offenders convicted of federal hate crimes if the offender has at least one prior conviction for either a state or federal hate crime. Currently, the maximum is limited to 10 years unless the offense involves death, kidnapping, aggravated sexual abuse, or attempted murder.

According to the theoretical underpinnings of the legislation, Jews are the target of most hate crimes committed in the United States against any religious group, including attacks on Jewish places of worship, schools, and community centers.

During a McCarthy interview with Fox News, he targeted Democrats he accused of wrongly blaming Israel for the violence unleashed in the Middle East.

The Squad weighs in

“In fact, Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib, and Cori Bush irresponsibly tried to delegitimize our closest ally in the region, calling it an ‘apartheid state,’” McCarthy recalled.

The representative also warned that the exact sentiment of intolerance conveyed by the leftist representatives spread to several major U.S. cities in a matter of days.

As a result, several graphic videos showed pro-Hamas mobs intentionally targeting Americans simply for being Jewish at various locations across the United States, The BL reported in a report.

McCarthy lamented the rise in anti-Semitic attacks and called it a contradiction to the “very essence of our nation’s founding principles,” accusing socialist Democrats in Congress of stoking hatred against Jews.

“Yet socialist Democrats continue to endorse and promote repulsive anti-Semitic rhetoric, while Speaker Pelosi and Senator Schumer refuse to unambiguously condemn the unhinged statements from members of their own party,” McCarthy stated.

BLM expresses solidarity with Palestinians

Black Lives Matter (BLM), a leftist group popular especially among young people, also joined in as an accomplice to these violent attacks against Jews by expressing “solidarity” with Palestinians amid the conflict with Israel, defining its forceful stance against the Jewish people in a message via Twitter.

“Black Lives Matter stands in solidarity with Palestinians. We are a movement committed to ending settler colonialism in all forms and will continue to advocate for Palestinian liberation. (always have. And always will be).”

In the face of this unfortunate situation, both Democratic representatives understood the importance of implementing an extraordinary legal remedy to protect the victims and ensure that the perpetrators of these attacks are punished to the fullest extent of the law.
