Former Vice President Joe Biden’s name is prominent on the recently declassified list of officials relating to the “unmasking” of retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, and is making waves for the presumptive Democrat presidential candidate in the 2020 election.

Speaking to Fox News host Neil Cavuto on Wednesday, May 13, Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) said he believes the requests to unmask Flynn by members of the former Obama administration amount to conspiracy, corruption, and abuse of power.

“I think this is astonishing that Vice President Biden and really, all of President Obama’s inner circle individually were requesting the unmasking of a political opponent,” Paul said. “There was a whole to-do about trying to impeach a president, saying they were using the power of government to go after a political opponent. This is a … smoking gun if there ever was one. That Vice President Biden was using the power of government, abusing that power to go after a political opponent. Essentially, unmasking someone is the equivalent of illegally wiretapping them.”

Joe Biden’s name on the list raises the question of Biden’s unsuitability to become the next president, should he win the next election.

“This was a conspiracy,” Paul said. “The question is, did President Obama direct it all or did Vice President Biden? Now, we now know for a fact that Vice President Biden was involved, and he needs to be questioned on this because we can’t elevate someone to the presidency who’s willing to use the intelligence community to spy on his political opponents. That should be a deal killer.”

President Trump has dubbed the affair “Obamagate,” and said corrupt officials were aided by the media in unmasking Flynn, and their motives have led them to commit treason.

Speaking from the Oval Office to reporters on May 7, the president said, the Obama administration was aided by the media in its conspiracy.

“Gen. Flynn was and still is a great warrior. He was targeted by the Obama administration in order to try and take down a president. A big price should be paid … they are human scum. The Obama admin, justice dept was a disgrace, and they got caught. It’s treason.” said the president. “The media was complicit,” he added.

Meanwhile, Democrats and the Biden campaign accuse the president and Republicans of creating a diversion with the controversy in an attempt to cause a distraction from the CCP Virus crisis. They argue the list of names is no proof of any illegal activity, and claim the sheer number of officials that showed interest in Flynn indicates that incoming officials for the Trump administration were conducting suspicious activities, the opposite to what is claimed by Republicans and the president.

Biden sought to distance himself from the FBI’s Flynn investigation during a Thursday interview on MSNBC, reported the Washington Examiner.

“Mr. Vice President, what was your involvement in the investigation of Michael Flynn and the FBI investigation of Michael Flynn?” host Lawrence O’Donnell asked. Biden replied, “I was never a part or had any knowledge of any criminal investigation into Flynn while I was in office. Period. Not one single time.”

During an interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos after the Justice Department had filed to drop its charges against Flynn, Biden contradicted himself. “I know nothing about those moves to investigate Michael Flynn,” Biden said, adding that Trump’s focus on Flynn ”is all about diversion” and a way to divert attention “from the real concerns of the American people.”

Stephanopoulos then mentioned that Biden was present at the Jan. 5 meeting. “I thought you asked me whether or not I had anything to do with him being prosecuted,” Biden replied, seemingly having trouble with adjusting his earpiece. “I was aware that there was, that they asked for an investigation, but that’s all I know about it,” reported the Examiner.
