A coalition of more than twenty GOP lawmakers have sent a letter to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Attorney General William Barr asking them to bring the case against Chinese Communist Party (CCP) to the International Court of Justice for the country’s handling of the CCP Virus (coronavirus).

In the letter written by Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN) and cosigned by 22 other lawmakers in the House, they highlighted that CCP has violated the 2005 International Health Regulations by covering up the information about the outbreak in the city of Wuhan and underreporting the number of infections and deaths caused by the virus. The letter was obtained by the Fox News on Monday, April 20.

“The Chinese state made intentional false claims to its own people and the world about the nature of the virus,” the letter read. “China rejected repeated offers from the [World Health Organization] and [the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention] in late January and early February to study the new disease without explanation.”

“If China fails to submit itself to a fair trial in the International Court of Justice, the Charter of the United Nations gives guidance to injured parties: Articles 49-51 explain how states could suspend their obligations to China as means to induce Beijing to fulfill its responsibility for the calamitous damages inflicted on the world,” it added.

More than 2.4 million people in the world have been sickened with the CCP Virus, and more than 170,000 people have died, including more than 42,000 in the United States, according to the latest data.

A study showed that the rapid spread of the virus around the world could have been substantially curtailed if interventions by CCP authorities brought in to control the outbreak were introduced just a week earlier. Sixty-six percent fewer of people would have been infected, if the measures could have been brought in a week earlier and the same measures brought in three weeks earlier could have reduced cases by 95%.

However, the Chinese regime did not warn the public of a likely pandemic for six key days. More than 3,000 people had been infected during almost a week of public silence, according to a recent analysis by The Associated Press.

Pompeo said last Friday that the CCP and the World Health Organization failed to provide information about the virus in a timely manner, which has resulted in a global pandemic.

“We are still asking the Chinese Communist Party to allow experts to get in to that virology lab so that we can determine precisely where this virus began,” Pompeo said on Fox Business Network. “It’s not political. This is about science and epidemiology. We need to understand what has taken place so that we can reduce [the] risk to Americans in the days and weeks and months ahead and get the global economy back on track.”
