A driver who was fleeing from deputies crashed into a vehicle in central Georgia, killing four people, authorities said.

Butts County Sheriff Gary Long told WXIA-TV that the crash occurred Friday evening, Sept. 27, on Georgia Highway 36, southwest of Jackson.

The pursuit began in Monroe County when the driver refused to stop for a deputy on Interstate 75, Long said.

Long said two people in the car of the fleeing suspect died, as well as two women who were in the other vehicle. The driver of the fleeing car was in critical condition.

The names of the victims have not yet been released.
