Michael Flynn, a retired lieutenant general who worked as the White House national security advisor under President Donald Trump, denied that he supported the concept of a coup in the United States.
At a conference in Dallas called the “For God & Country Patriot Roundup” over the weekend, Flynn was questioned by a “simple Marine” in the crowd, “Why what happened in Myanmar can’t happen here?,” as reported by Washington Examiner.
After the crowd surged in applause, as captured on video and shared on social media, Flynn responded, “No reason. I mean, it should happen here.”

In February, the Myanmar military took control of Myanmar, deposing Aung San Suu Kyi’s elected government and putting commander in chief Min Aung Hlaing in charge, all while claiming that the November election in this Southeast Asian country was rigged.
After the videos went viral and made headlines, a message on Flynn’s verified Parler account stated that he had never advocated for any sort of a military takeover in the United States.
“For all the fake news ‘journalists’: Let me be VERY CLEAR—There is NO reason whatsoever for any coup in America, and I do not and have not at any time called for any action of that sort. Any reporting of any other belief by me is a boldface fabrication based on twisted reporting at a lively panel at a conference of Patriotic Americans who love this country, just as I do. I am no stranger to media manipulating my words and therefore let me repeat my response to a question asked at the conference: There is no reason it (a coup) should happen here (in America),” Flynn said Sunday, May 30, on Parler.
According to CNN, Sidney Powell, a lawyer who has represented Flynn, also stated that Flynn does not support “any act of violence or any military insurgency” and that the media has “grossly distorted” his comments.
Flynn, who former President Donald Trump pardoned in November after pleading guilty to lying to the FBI about conversations he had with a Russian envoy, has pushed the idea that the United States’ 2024 elections will be rigged as well, arguing in December that Trump could use “military capabilities” to “rerun” the election in swing states.
