Private investigator Michael Fisten said he shared with authorities the names of two young women allegedly searching for underage girls for billionaire Jeffrey Epstein, who was indicted and detained for sex trafficking of minors.
“We wanted to get those logs [with details of the alleged accomplices] so we could see who the girls were,” the investigator said, but “they’re missing. No one knows where they are,” he also said of the mysterious disappearance of important data linked to the case, according to the Washington Examiner.
Fisten refers to the time when Epstein was sentenced to 13 months in prison on charges of prostitution, but under an agreement, he was allowed to leave prison for 12 hours a day, six days a week. His victims were not informed of the deal.
At the same time, the defendant avoided a possible life sentence. The agreement also required that he reach financial pacts with dozens of his teenage victims and that he be registered as a sex offender.
Epstein was arrested again July 6 in New York and faces new charges of sex trafficking on charges filed in the early 2000s, according to authorities.
He is accused of abusing dozens of girls at his residences in Manhattan and Palm Beach, Florida, and of recruiting his victims to bring other girls.
The defendant pleaded not guilty in federal court in New York and will remain in jail awaiting trial, which could take months. A federal judge denied him bail.
Epstein has among his friends former President Bill Clinton, and Prince Andrew of Great Britain, who had traveled to the billionaire’s island, where sex crimes are believed to have been committed.
David Boies, a lawyer for Virginia Roberts Giuffre, one of the women who sued Epstein, believes that knowing the personalities linked to the crimes committed by Epstein will have a great impact.
“Nobody who was around Epstein a lot is going to have an easy time now. It’s all going to come out,” the counsel added in a conversation with Vanity Fair magazine.
