Florida Governor Ron DeSantis lashed out on Thursday, March 10, at the entertainment giant Walt Disney Company for encouraging Woke culture in children using money pumped into it by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
The governor’s remarks were in response to the Disney CEO’s criticism of the state’s “Parental Rights in Education” bill, which seeks to ban the teaching of transgenderism in Florida kindergartens.
Gov. DeSantis spoke in front of families in the Floridian city of Boca Raton at a rally Thursday, where he said the state’s policies “got to be based on the best interest of Florida citizens, not on the musing of woke corporations,” according to a video obtained by Fox News.
And he reaffirmed his commitment to the rights of parents who, he said, “do not want this injected into their kid’s kindergarten classroom.”
Disney said in a statement that it was sorry it had not voiced its disapproval of the bill pushed by state Republicans sooner and had suspended its campaign donations, CNBC noted.
“You needed me to be a stronger ally in the fight for equal rights, and I let you down,” CEO Bob Chapek wrote in a statement to colleagues and the LGBTQ+ community Friday.
“I called Gov. DeSantis this morning to express our disappointment,” Chapek said, adding that the governor had been open to hearing their approach.
To which DeSantis spokeswoman Christina Pushaw responded in a statement:
“Governor DeSantis has always been open to hearing from Floridians and having conversations about legislation—as long as those discussions are grounded in facts, not false media narratives,” further assuring that “The governor’s position has not changed.”
In that context, DeSantis criticized the entertainment company and its double standard. He said, “You have companies, like at Disney, that are going to say and criticize parents’ righ. They’rere going to criticize the fact that we don’t want transgenderism in kindergarten in first-grade classrooms.”
“If that’s the hill they’re going to die on, then how do they possibly explain lining their pockets with their relationship from the Communist Party of China? Because that’s what they do, and they make a fortune, and they don’t say a word about the really brutal practices that you see over there at the hands of the CCP.”
The Chinese regime is accused of committing genocide against innocent people because of their faith or ethnicity, locked up in slave labor camps.
Several human rights organizations and independent investigators have obtained shocking testimonies from people who survived inhumane treatment, as well as evidence of the CCP’s forced organ harvesting for the transplant market.
