On Wednesday, Georgia-based Coca-Cola CEO James Quincey said on a television show that Georgia’s recently passed voting laws aimed at improving the integrity of state elections are “unacceptable,” “wrong,” and “a step backward.” His remarks sparked a massive backlash against Coca-Cola, with celebrities and thousands of consumers condemning the executive’s remarks.

Quincey, who joined the Coca-Cola company in 1996, appeared on CNBC on Wednesday criticizing the new legislation and stating that “we will continue to advocate” against the new laws “both privately and publicly.” The Coca-Cola CEO appeared to speak for himself and on behalf of the company he represents, prompting a backlash against the famous beverage firm. 

Quincey’s remarks come after the Republican-sponsored Election Integrity Act of 2021, a sweeping election bill, passed the Georgia state House and Senate and was signed into law by Republican Governor Brian Kemp on Thursday, March 25.

Recently, former President Donald Trump has praised the efforts of Georgia Republican lawmakers for passing the historic election integrity bill, which he said should have been done sooner.

“Congratulations to Georgia and the Georgia State Legislature on changing their voter Rules and Regulations,” Trump said in a statement issued through Save America PAC on Friday, March 26.

“They learned from the travesty of the 2020 Presidential Election, which can never be allowed to happen again. Too bad these changes could not have been done sooner!” he said.

Author and former Congressional candidate Buzz Patterson wrote on Twitter, “The guy who peddles sugar water that makes you obese wants to control the way you think.” 

“Patriots will choose another beverage,” noted Fox News host Laura Ingraham. “Big mistake by @CocaCola. Don’t poke the bear.”

“The majority of Americans favor voter ID & laws to protect elections.” Commented actress Alana Stewart. “The left threatened to boycott @CocaCola & CEO James Quincey caved. Boycotts work both ways. Many patriotic Americans will no longer be buying #Coke, including me. Bad move, @CocaCola. #BoycottCocaColaCo.” She added:

Coca-Cola was at the center of criticism in late February when a post went viral revealing allegedly “anti-racism” training materials instructing employees to “be less white.” 

Psychologist Karlyn Borysenko, an activist, trying to combat critical race theory, said she obtained the online training footage from an “internal whistleblower” at the company.

Coca-Cola is intent on getting involved and positioning itself in political disputes. Its position is oriented to the left, defending, like so many other large firms, the globalist ideals associated with the liberal agenda.
