Montana Governor Greg Gianforte and his wife tested positive for the CCP Virus (coronavirus) on Monday, April 5.
The result came back positive after Gianforte took his first shot of the coronavirus vaccine four days earlier.
According to an announcement on the governor’s webpage, he began having “mild symptoms” on Sunday.
The governor and his wife, Susan Gianforte, who tested positive on Tuesday, April 6, are isolating at their Bozeman home.
His office has canceled all future public events until further notice.
Over the weekend and on Friday, Gianforte’s staff made no public announcement for his schedule. Later, a spokesperson for the governor confirmed to Montana Free Press that he had attended Easter Sunday services at Grace Bible Church in Bozeman but that he had been asymptomatic, wore a mask, and had “no close contacts” there other than with family members.
Brooke Stroke, Gianforte’s spokeswoman, also said that since Thursday evening, Gianforte has been “in close contact with one staff member, a member of his protective detail, family members, and friends who he had dinner with.”
According to Stroke, none of Gianforte’s dinner guests were public officials or government employees, and the governor and his staff are tested “regularly.” So far, no other members of his team have shown signs of illness.
Gianforte took his first COVID-19 vaccine shot on Thursday, April 1, at a Walgreens pharmacy in Helena. Photos from the event show Gianforte was wearing a mask when interacting with staff members.
Later that day, Gianforte visited St. James Healthcare in Butte to celebrate Montana’s 500,000th dose of the vaccine. A photo from the outdoor press conference shows an unmasked Gianforte standing near clinic manager Risk Rask, while a video of the event shows him wearing a mask inside the clinic.
In a photo shared on his Twitter account, Gianforte met with disabled veterans in the Capitol building on March 25. The attendees were unmasked and in close proximity.
Following his doctor’s advice, the governor plans to isolate for ten days. According to a press release from his office, he has notified people with whom he has had regular contact.
