A 9-year-old boy in St. Louis, Missouri, was hospitalized after a car drove around a stopped school bus and hit him.

The incident occurred around 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24. While the boy stepped out of the school bus and attempted to cross the street, the driver drove around the bus and struck him, St. Louis police said. 

The driver then left the scene, KMOV reported.

The boy suffered a leg injury and was transported to a hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

Police said the bus driver had used the proper signals to warn cars to lawfully stop.

Police are still looking for the driver of the black Pontiac, who hit the boy.

No other information was released.
