Rep. MarkWayne Mullin (R-Okla.) stated the Biden administration’s claim that this was a “successful evacuation” was “a bold-faced lie.”
Mullin told Fox News that the White House and Pentagon had been lying about the conditions that American citizens in Afghanistan have been suffering. They also lied about the seeming ease with which Americans could reach Kabul airport while American forces were still on the ground.
Mullin spoke with “Fox News Primetime” about the State Department claiming credit for his rescue of four American citizens from Afghanistan.
The show’s host, Rachel Campos-Duffy, began by discussing the new emails revealing the State Department “refused to grant official approval for private evacuation flights from Afghanistan to land in third-world countries.” Moreover, the emails show, “the State Department explicitly stated that charter flights, even those containing American citizens, would not be allowed to land at Defense Department Air Bases” out of fear of importing terrorists.
“And what was the State Department’s response? To steal credit for the heroic efforts of others,” Campos-Duffy said.
Congressman Mullin recently returned from a semi-secretive mission to Asia to help Americans stranded in Afghanistan. He shared details of his trip with Bret Baier on Fox News’ “Special Report.” Fox News reported that the lawmaker told Baier that the State Department was lying to the American people and that he spent nearly a dozen hours on the phone with them while attempting to land in Afghanistan.
After multiple federal agencies refused to allow the organization to land, Mullin attempted to sponsor a flight to bring 20 Americans out of the Taliban-controlled nation and back to the United States in his capacity as a House member.
Mullin said that the top U.S. diplomat in Dushanbe was similarly challenging to work with.
“In Tajikistan was unfortunately the ambassador was not helpful at all. And a lot of misinformation was going out about that,” he said of Ambassador John Mark Pommersheim.
He claimed he was questioned about the money he was carrying, recalled incredulously stating that his team would have to cross through 16 Taliban checkpoints to get to Kabul, with insurgents charging a “tax” of up to $4,000 at each point.
Mullin claimed he began to understand how much Biden and his senior military commanders, including Gens. Mark Milley and Kenneth “Frank” McKenzie Jr. were allegedly “lying to the American people” after the roadblock from the Tajik Embassy.
The State Department also announced on Monday, Sept. 6 that it had “facilitated the safe departure” of four American citizens without any Taliban interference.
“When they said that anybody that wanted to leave could leave, that’s not true because you had to go through three Taliban checkpoints and each one would charge between $500 to $1000 a person to cross those checkpoints. That’s why the other countries were going out and getting their citizens and bringing them back, but not the United States at the orders from either Secretary Blinken or President Biden,” Mullin said.
He went on to say the embassies he had asked for help from informed him that they had been “instructed not to assist” in any way.
“[They were] saying everybody who wanted out could get out. … That is a lie—That is a boldfaced, 100% lie because we were working with these individuals,” he said.
