One person was shot in the leg and six others were injured on Sunday evening, Feb. 23, in a shooting at a flea market in north Harris County, Houston, Texas, according to KHOU 11.
The incident happened at about 7 p.m. at the Mercado Sabadomingo flea market.
According to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, there was a “live dance“ inside the building packed with people, including children when an adult male, was shot in the leg, the bullet ricocheted off the ground and injured six other adults.
All seven people were transported to hospitals, none of them are critical, Sheriff Gonzalez said.
A male suspect, who was not identified, was detained at the scene. He told investigators that the gun was in his pocket when it accidentally fired.
A witness reported seeing the suspect holding a gun before they heard a gunshot, Gonzalez said. More witnesses with information will be called to come forward because the suspect’s story wasn’t consistent with the evidence and he had been drinking.
The potential motive is unclear. This is an ongoing investigation.
