Makai Simmons and his mother Capron were visiting family in the Bahamas when the deadly storm hit.
They rode it out at Makai’s grandma’s house, which suffered heavy damage.
After waiting 13 hours in line–Capron and Makai were able to get on a cruise ship back to the United States on Friday.
Makai Simmons had his first day back at school Monday after he had missed a week of school because of getting stuck in the Bahamas.
