On Oct. 21, a Florida boy found sleeping in the middle of the night in front of a grocery store told police that he was scared of going home because he no longer wanted to be hit.
The 13-year-old boy told police that he was regularly abused by Melanie Guy, also known as Melanie Anne Fulton Brown, WTSP reported.
The boy told investigators that between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m. Guy will wake him up and make him clean the house. If he fell asleep, he would be forced to run in place for 15 minutes and would be beaten with a plastic back scratcher.
Police went to the house and saw padlocks were on a fridge and freezer. There was also a lock on a cabinet with food for the baby.
Guy, 36, told to investigators that the locks stop the boy from eating all the food.
When the cabinet was opened by investigators, saw bugs crawling out. Investigators noted thousands of cockroaches and piles of dog feces filled the house.
Larry Brown, 44, the woman’s husband, was also involved in the abuse. Brown beat the boy with a leather belt and as punishment, police said, and would withhold food.
The boy was taken to a hospital where staff found bruises, welts, and other marks on his body.
The couple was accused of abuse and child neglect.
