Since the 22-year-old Gabby Petito’s disappearance and death, a nationwide manhunt for her fiancé, Brian Laundrie, has been launched. Investigation Discovery’s (ID) John Walsh will host a special laying out the details to help shed light on the case. The network hopes that this will also lead to Brian Laundrie’s location.
The program, named “Gabby Petito: ID Special Report,” will air on ID on Wednesday, Oct. 13 at 9 p.m. and will examine the tragic death of Petito.
According to the New York Post, Walsh will be joined by a panel of experts. Each person involved is either a journalist, a prosecutor, a former law enforcement officer, or a missing person’s advocate.
Jason Sarlanis, ID’s president of crime and investigative content, stated in a press release that the special “will give viewers an in-depth look at the story BEHIND the headlines with exclusive commentary and analysis that only ID’s all-star roster of experts can bring.”
“This story could be the defining case of our generation,” he added, “and we at ID are doing everything in our power to help find Brian Laundrie and use our platform to bring much-needed attention to the many other missing persons cases still left tragically unsolved.”
Petito vanished in late August while on the fateful trip with Laundrie. Her parents reported her missing in Suffolk County on Sept. 11, more than a week after he returned to his parents’ home without her.
On Sept. 19, her remains were found in a remote camping area in Wyoming. Her cause of death was ruled to be a strangulation and the manner of death was homicide.
The couple was in a fight on Aug. 12, which prompted a domestic case report to the Moab police office.
Last month, Walsh said he was “terrified” when he first saw bodycam footage of Petito’s fight with Laundrie, which he described as “classic domestic abuse.”
“I looked at it with an FBI agent friend of mine and I was terrified,” Walsh said to CNN host Anderson Cooper.
Despite spending millions of dollars, authorities have been unable to locate Brian Laundrie.
