Chinese military threat against Taiwan ‘is real’, says Taiwan Foreign Minister

Taiwanese Foreign Minister Joseph Wu has restated Taiwan’s commitment to independence from China, saying that the island doesn’t “want to be part of the People’s Republic of China.”

Talking with Sky News host Peta Credlin on Thursday, March 17, Dr. Wu said,

“The military threat against Taiwan is real, and we have to be prepared.”

He said,

“If you look at the ambition of the authoritarian China, they want to change the international order, they want to impose their authoritarian views on Taiwan and the rest of the Indo-Pacific.

“Therefore, if Taiwan falls, I’m sure the rest of the region is going to feel the impact.”

The minister also said,

“Defending Taiwan is not just Taiwan’s responsibility.”

“We understand that safeguarding our own democratic way of life is a matter for the rest of the world, and we have the determination to do that.”
