At 5:25 pm on November 21, an explosion occurred at Jiangyang Chemical Plant in Jiancaoping District, Taiyuan, Shanxi, China. It blew out the glass damaged nearby residences. An official casualty report has not been released.

Video released by Image China media on November 21 showed the explosion creating a large amount of white smoke, a mushroom-shaped cloud rising. The door of a nearby store was shattered and part of the ceiling collapsed.

Caixin reported that a resident who lives about 19 miles from the plant said she heard a loud noise around 5:30 p.m. that day and “it felt like thunder.”

A local resident said that his brother was working on an excavator at a construction site in front of a chemical plant when the explosion broke the glass in the excavator.

A reporter from Dahe newspaper confirmed to the local government and emergency management office that the Jiangyang chemical plant exploded. The fire has been extinguished, but casualties are unknown.

Later, a male resident by the name of Zhao confirmed the explosion to Jimu News. he said that the explosion tore the roof off of his house and a window frame was also damaged, so he and his family ran out into the yard to shelter, fortunately no one was injured.

Zhao also mentioned that last September there was another an explosion at this chemical factory, which damaged his house.

In response to the explosion at the chemical plant, employees of the Jiancaoping District Emergency Management Department announced that they were investigating the incident and asked the local authorities to provide a detailed announcement.

According to previous local news, at 8:10 a.m. on September 2, 2021, an explosion occurred at Jiangyang Chemical Plant, and several employees were injured, no people were killed, but it is worth noting that the cause of the explosion is still under investigation. Locals said at the time they heard loud noises 2 miles away. The windows in nearby residences shook and cracks appeared on the walls. In addition, at 8:36 a.m. on April 17, 2021, another explosion occurred at the workshop of Xingan Chemical Factory in Taiyuan city. After the incident, it was confirmed that 2 people were dead and 3 were missing, and the cause of the accident has not been announced.
