A Republican from Texas strongly criticized the Democratic Party for dramatizing shootings to achieve their political objectives.

Sen. Ted Cruz is sick of Democrats exaggerating gun violence cases in a relentless bid to deny every American their constitutional right to bear arms.

“I agree it is time for us to do something and, every time there is a shooting, we play this ridiculous theater where this committee gets together and proposes a bunch of laws that would do nothing to stop these murders,” he said in a video obtained by Fox News.

Cruz revealed disarming every law-abiding gun owner would not only fail to end all mass shootings across the United States but even make gun violence worse.

“What they propose, not only does it not reduce crime, it makes it worse,” he can be heard saying. “Jurisdictions in this country with the strictest gun control have among the highest rates of murder.”

The senator accused the Democrats of having no interest in preventing shootings and only wanting to make Americans unable to defend themselves.

“What happens in this committee after every mass shooting is Democrats propose taking away guns from law-abiding citizens because that is their political objective,” he said. “When you disarm law-abiding citizens, you make them more likely to be victims.”

The Republican believes U.S. Congress should spend more time targeting the reasons why people commit gun violence instead.

“If you want to stop these murders, go after the murderers,” he said.

One idea he and Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) previously proposed involves stopping both known and high-risk offenders from accessing firearms.

“Sen. Grassley and I introduced legislation Grassley proves is targeted at violent criminals, felons, fugitives, [and] those with serious mental disease,” he said. “[The goal is] to stop them from getting firearms; to put them in prison, when they try to illegally buy guns.”

Cruz is no stranger to making statements about upholding the Second Amendment. He previously attended Joe Biden’s presidential inauguration ceremony, wearing a light gray facemask with an embroidered cannon, star, and the slogan “Come and take it.”

The political stunt, which went viral on social media, was in response to Biden’s executive order that forces everyone to wear a face mask and social distance while visiting the Capitol and other buildings on federal land.

The National Rifle Association (NRA) applauded Cruz for supporting a “well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.”

“Sen. Ted Cruz sends [a] strong message with mask at Biden’s inauguration,” the NRA said on Twitter.
