Two Republican allies of the former president promised to vigorously battle cancel culture, after multiple California venues refused to host their political event.
Reps. Matt Gaetz (Fla.) and Marjorie Taylor Greene (Ga.) staged an impromptu protest in Riverside County, on July 17.
“Marjorie and I called out the (Make America Great Again) army a few hours ago and you are here because you love America,” Gaetz said according to the Press-Enterprise.
The pair expressed disappointment with “radical” and “communist” Democrats who pressured multiple locations not to lease space to them for the America First rally.
Gaetz warned conservatives are preparing to battle for their First Amendment rights in the streets.
“They may try to cancel us online, they may try to pursue us in real life, [and] they may try to shut down our venues,” Gaetz said according to the paper. “We will take take this fight to them in the courts, in the halls of Congress and–if necessary–in the streets!”
The remarks came after the pair hired space at Riverside Convention Center. However, the venue canceled the booking just hours before the rally was scheduled to start.
The Pacific Hills Banquet and Event Center in Laguna previously blocked the same event, because general manager Javad Mirtavoosi did not like the main speakers.
Greene is not fazed by the cancellations, and still believes the Golden State will host the rally some day.
“We will not back down,” she said. “The radical left wants to threaten you, they want to harass you, they want to target you, and they want to cancel you.”
The Republican suggested her political rivals are not only trying to silence her but also the general public.
“Here is what we were going to do, America,” she said according to the Daily Mail. “You have got two members of Congress right here, and we refuse to be canceled because we will not let you be canceled.”
Greene also commended former President Donald Trump on persevering despite years of negative media publicity.
“The press and the lying fake news media harassed him (Trump) and smeared him to make America hate him,” she said according to the Press-Enterprise. “Do we hate him?”
“No!” the crowd responded.
Greene believes putting the United States’s interests first will help the nation return to greatness.
“These are the policies that are going to save our country, and stop the communists that are trying to destroy our freedom!” she said according to the paper.
Gaetz compared the spread of American liberal progressive thinking to violent conflicts in Cuba, between protestors and the socialist unitarian regime.
“I know many of us are concerned about what is happening in Cuba but I am far more concerned that the United States is becoming Cuba,” he said according to the Daily Mail.
He rebuked legislators who allegedly accepted bribes from lobbyists and political action organizations in exchange for representing their interests in Congress.
“Do you know why they are so afraid of Matt Gaetz and Marjorie Taylor Greene?” he said. “Because we fight for you, not them.”

Greene later shared a video of herself and Gaetz strolling barefoot on Huntington Beach. An entourage of supporters can be seen in the background holding signs, cheering and yelling “freedom” and “we love you.”
“[Gaetz] and I are proud to fight for America in the halls of Congress,” she said on Twitter. “Thank you, Southern California for showing up even though the communists tried to cancel us!”

Not the special interests at home.

The City of Anaheim previously defended the Pacific Hills Banquet and Event Center’s refusal to host the rally, because the venue is only required to cancel 10 hours before the scheduled start time.
The city accused the rally of raising safety concerns, particularly in light of the Chinese Communist Party Virus’s Delta variant. It also claimed the rally was “divisive.”
Mirtavoosi claimed he initially thought the rally was just a “gathering” and “immediately canceled” after discovering Gaetz and Greene were attending.
“We just thought it would be best for our facility to cancel,” he said according to the Daily Mail. “We just want to stay clear of that.”
In February, the Democrats ousted Greene from her House Committee assignments for continuing to support the previous president, and circulating different theories about 9/11 and QAnon.
They were also unhappy with the Republican congresswoman’s social media history. They forced Greene to apologize for allegedly inviting an execution of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and comparing the U.S. Senate’s mask mandate to the Holocaust.
Gaetz has faced different attacks to his reputation including alleged sex trafficking and buying gifts for a minor. The Republican strongly denies any wrongdoing, and a subsequent investigation found a lack of evidence.
