A Republican from Texas believes the world’s largest country is pleased with Washington’s leadership.
Sen. Ted Cruz suspects Moscow politically benefited from the Biden administration’s attitude towards a potential Russian invasion of Ukraine.
“Joe Biden becoming president is the best thing that ever happened, tragically, for Vladimir Putin,” he said in a video shared on YouTube.
Cruz questioned the Democratic Party for failing to satisfy Ukrainian government requests to block the $10.8 billion Nord Stream 2 Pipeline Project between St Petersburg in Russia and Lubmin in Germany.
“If you want to stop a Russian invasion, they have asked the United States explicitly, ‘Put sanctions on Nord Stream 2, right now, today’ [and] Joe Biden could do that this morning—he refuses to do it,'” the senator said.
The Republican also suggested Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky needs more military-grade firearms to help defend the Eastern European country.
“If you look at what the Ukrainians want, they have been very explicit … [and they said] provide lethal military aid, give us the weapons to defend ourselves,” he said.
Cruz is not sure if the Biden administration’s strategy to prevent an armed conflict will work “at all.”
“Joe Biden came to Capitol Hill and personally lobbied Democratic senators to vote against Russian sanctions—that is why we are facing this invasion,” he said.
