The leftist group Demand Justice, playing a pivotal role in running anti-Kavanaugh campaigns, was recently exposed by the Capital Research Center after a contradictory claim by The New York Times was released. Democrats have since continued to smear the Supreme Court justice while receiving funds from dark money groups.
“This new report corroborates the allegations made by Debbie Ramirez and proves the FBI investigation conducted last year was a sham from the start,” The Center for Popular Democracy, Women’s March, and Demand Justice said in a joint statement.
The three liberal activist organizations jointly accused Kavanaugh of “sexually assault[ing] these women,” when the “Kavanaugh accuser” herself “doesn’t recall [the] incident.”
The very same story prompted at least five Democratic presidential candidates to demand Kavanaugh’s impeachment, including Sens. Kamala Harris and Elizabeth Warren, according to a report by the Washington Examiner.
On Sunday, The New York Times abruptly made a major revision concerning a resurfaced allegation of the sexual assault hours after virtually all 2020 Democratic presidential candidates had cited the original article as grounds to impeach Kavanaugh, Fox News reported.
According to a report by Breitbart News, within less than one hour of Trump’s announcement that Kavanaugh had been selected as his nominee, Demand Justice had already put up the website stopkavanaugh.com, exclaiming: “We need to demand that the Senate defeat the Brett Kavanaugh nomination.”
Demand Justice is a left-wing advocacy group established in 2018 led by Brian Fallon, former press secretary for Hillary Clinton’s unsuccessful 2016 campaign. The group, thriving on anonymous donors, is a project of the Sixteen Thirty Fund, which falls under the umbrella of Arabella Advisors—an intricate dark money network that contains dozens of liberal groups and projects. According to The Washington Free Beacon, the network is used as a “pass through” entity for Democratic donors and has facilitated $1.6 billion in funds to liberal entities in recent years.
Established as a dark money group to combat President Donald Trump’s judicial nominations, Demand Justice has been on the frontline to fight against Justice Brett Kavanaugh. The group, heavily financed by liberal billionaire George Soros, has come to light according to disclosed grants.
But Soros’s 501(c )(4) D.C.-based advocacy group, outright marked that it had sent $2.5 million to Demand Justice for general support between April 1 and June 30, 2018, according to a review of its grants. Soros’s group had apparently sent $87,000 more to Fallon’s group between Oct. 1 and Dec. 31 to “support advocacy on judicial nominations,” The Washington Free Beacon reported.
The news media has routinely produced articles on Demand Justice protesters, with many pieces failing to inform readers that it is not a grass-roots group, but rather an organization spawned by professional organizers and associated with deep leftist funding, Breitbart reported.
The Capital Research Center’s exposé documented that from 2013 to 2017 alone, Arabella’s four nonprofits spent a combined $1.16 billion with the goal of advancing “the political policies desired by wealthy left-wing interests through hundreds of ‘front’ groups.”
“And those interests pay well: the network’s revenues grew by an incredible 392 percent over that same period,” the report said.
“Together, these groups form an interlocking network of ‘dark money’ pop-up groups and other fiscally sponsored projects, all afloat in a half-billion-dollar ocean of cash,” the report stated. “The real puppeteer, though, is Arabella Advisors, which has managed to largely conceal its role in coordinating so much of the professional Left’s infrastructure under a mark of ‘philanthropy.’”
The president weighed in on Twitter in defense of Kavanaugh.
“Brett Kavanaugh should start suing people for libel, or the Justice Department should come to his rescue. The lies being told about him are unbelievable. False Accusations without recrimination. When does it stop? They are trying to influence his opinions. Can’t let that happen!” The president tweeted.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) also had plenty to say about the Democrats smearing Kavanaugh.
“You know, I got to say, they apparently spent 10 months with undercover reporters trying to track down every person that went to school with Justice Kavanaugh 30 years ago,” Cruz said. “You know, it’s an amazing level of reporting trying to just really dig up any dirt they can on the guy.”
After noting that the Judiciary Committee had held a hearing, invited the principal witness to testify, Cruz emphasized. “We heard it, the American people heard it, and at the end of the day, the American people made a judgment that—that the evidence wasn’t there, the corroboration wasn’t there” and “this article just shows the obsession with the far left, with trying to smear Justice Kavanaugh by going 30 years back with anonymous sources.”
“It really is another sign of how nasty and divided the time is today,” Cruz said.
