Several Republican representatives are convinced that the Democratic Party’s attempt to oust U.S. President Donald Trump will not only fail, but will cause them to lose the majority in Congress in 2020.

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi announced Tuesday that she will ask the House to begin impeachment proceedings against President Trump based on alleged pressure from the president to his Ukrainian counterpart.

According to Pelosi, President Trump would have asked the Ukrainian president to investigate the connections of Joe Biden, who when he was vice president of Barack Obama did pressure the Ukrainian government to fire its attorney general, who at the time was investigating the company where Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, worked.

“This week, the president has admitted to asking the president of Ukraine to take actions which would benefit him politically,” Pelosi said, according to Fox News.

“Therefore, today, I’m announcing the House of Representatives is moving forward with an official impeachment inquiry. I’m directing our six committees to proceed with their investigations under that umbrella,” she continued.

“The president must be held accountable,” she added. “No one is above the law,” Pelosi said, without making any reference to the video of her fellow Democrat Joe Biden, in which he acknowledged that he used the allocation of U.S. government aid to Ukraine to force the dismissal of the Ukraine attorney general while he was vice president.

“I said, ‘I’m telling you, you won’t get the billion dollars,'” Joe Biden told at a Council on Foreign Relations event on Jan. 23, 2018.

“I looked at them and said, ‘I’m leaving in six hours. If the prosecutor is not fired, you’re not getting the money.’ Well, son of a b***, he got fired,” he added.

Democrats have tried to initiate a process to remove the president with different alleged irregularities committed by him since he arrived at the White House in 2017.

In this case, the president acknowledged that he talked about Joe Biden and his son with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on July 25.

However, President Trump said that the conversation was very appropriate and innocent and, in fact, after obtaining the permission of the Ukrainian president, he authorized the publication of the full transcript.

“Secretary of State Pompeo received permission from Ukraine Government to release the transcript of the telephone call I had with their President,” the president wrote on Twitter.

“They don’t know either what the big deal is. A total Witch Hunt Scam by the Democrats!” he added.

The hatred of President Trump won’t be free

Several Republican representatives have warned the Democratic Party that their hatred of President Trump will have negative impacts in the upcoming presidential elections.

“For the past three years, the socialist Democrats have been obsessed with impeaching the president and backfilling in the reason after the fact,” National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Tom Emmer said in a statement.

“They have become so radicalized by their hatred of President Trump that they are willing to plunge the nation into a constitutional crisis based on secondhand gossip,” Emmer added.

“Democrats have lost their sanity and any remaining credibility with the American people. Make no mistake about it: backing impeachment will cost the Democrats their majority in 2020,” he concluded.

Arizona Republican Representative Debbie Lesko said in a statement published on Twitter that “pursuing a baseless impeachment inquiry will backfire on Speaker Pelosi and her Democratic Caucus.”

“This path makes it even easier for President Trump to be reelected and for Republicans to win back the House in 2020,” she concluded.

In statements to Fox news, Lesko reproached Democrats who have no interest in governing and who are exclusively focused on defeating President Trump in 2020.

“People want to see Democrats and Republicans working together to solve big problems like securing the border, reducing medical costs,” she said, adding that all this rhetoric of impeaching the president “is driving ordinary citizens crazy.”

President Trump expressed his disappointment at the Democratic Party’s decision and wrote on Twitter on Tuesday:

“Such an important day at the United Nations, so much work and so much success, and the Democrats purposely had to ruin and demean it with more breaking news Witch Hunt garbage. So bad for our Country!” the president wrote.

He also noted that this decision was made without having seen the transcript of the call in question.
