Dissatisfied Burger King workers creatively bid farewell to senior management on an outdoor display board that became an internet sensation.

A mischievous group of employees chose a very public way to resign on July 10. They went outside and rearranged letters on the display board to vent frustration about allegedly working long hours and in poor conditions.

“We all quit,” the billboard said according to a photo obtained by KLKN. “Sorry for the inconvenience.”

Former general manager Rachael Flores quickly discovered news of the prank had spread around the world, by the time her supervisor phoned to ask for the message’s immediate removal.

“I did not think anybody was going to notice it because we did just one sign, and then it went pretty crazy on Facebook,” she said according to the New York Post. “I got a call from my upper management and they told me I needed to take it down.”

Flores, who joined the fast-food restaurant in January, and was one of nine employees who resigned from the Lincoln, Nebraska location. She claimed she was once hospitalized for dehydration from working in the hot kitchen without air-conditioning.

“They have gone through so many district managers since I have been GM,” she said according to KLKN. “No one has come to the store to help me out. They are so ‘in and out.'”

Fellow former colleague Kylee Johnson revealed she only stayed on to help Flores because the restaurant was so understaffed.

“I knew what was going on staffing-wise,” she told the broadcaster. “We were just waiting for more people to come then and we got nobody.”

To send a clear message to senior management, Flores and the rest of the team decided to leave the company on a comical note.

“We wanted a big laugh to them, so the whole ‘we all quit’ was mainly to them,” Flores said according to KKTV 11 News. “It was just more or less taking turns because it is actually kind of tiring putting the letters up there.”

However, her supervisors did not find the prank funny at all and told her to change the message and surrender her keys.

“I told him I could not do that (change the message) because we were short-staffed and lunch was just starting,” she joked.

Nevertheless, it appears their sacrifice achieved some positive change. Burger King quickly changed its message to say, “Now hiring. Flexible schedules.”

“The work experience described at this location is not in line with our brand values,” the company’s head office said in a statement obtained by UNILAD. “Our franchisee is looking into this situation to ensure this does not happen in the future.”

A number of social media users left positive feedback for the former employees.

“Good for them. Obviously, their employer did not care about their health or safety. Whoever has this franchise should be carefully reviewed by the head corporation,” one Twitter user commented.

“I worked for a certain coffee company years back and when the air-conditioner went out (in the middle of a Texas summer) we shut the store down. It was unhealthy working conditions and we made the right decision–good for them for standing up,” another user commented.
