Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) on June 18 said that Beijing had misinterpreted Taiwan’s foreign activities in the past few days.
This time, Taiwan’s statement is considered a response to the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman’s previous comment.
Xinhua reported that Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin, on June 17, said that disclosed money paid to the United States by the Taiwan authorities is only the “tip of the iceberg.”
Wang also said that he wondered how much money the Taiwan authorities have squandered to “honor” the United States.
MOFA also said that the Global Times and other Chinese Communist Party media outlets fabricated stories that the Taiwanese government hires public relations firms to lobby Japan or promote relations with the United States.
MOFA says that the CCP’s media is waging war to change perceptions of the Taiwanese by doing everything to undermine Taiwan-U.S. relations and alienating the Taiwanese people from their government.
MOFA remarks that Taiwan respects the freedom of speech in the media but expresses deep concern over fundamentally false reports and solemnly clarifies and refutes them.
MOFA cautions the people of Taiwan that they should be on high alert and should not trust the disinformation and one-sided information of the CCP’s totalitarian government.
