China parades with armored vehicles on the Fujian beach
Many online videos show CCP military forces assembled in Xiamen, Fujian.
Footage shows a parade of armored and other combat vehicles onto the beach, where tourists gathered on August 2 in the afternoon. However, the authorities didn’t have any request before to local people or tourists to evacuate.
This operation was deployed before Nancy Pelosi landed on Taiwanese land as if it were China’s warnings to the U.S.
Beijing stepped up military exercises on the evening of August 2
According to the Chinese government website, the spokesman of the Eastern Theater Command of the People’s Liberation Army, Colonel Shi Yi, said that there were military activities around Taiwan while Pelosi was visiting. The operations included “long-range live firing in the Taiwan Strait” and “regular-guided fire testing in the eastern waters” off Taiwan and started on Tuesday evening.
Taiwan says China sent 21 warplanes into the island’s ADIZ
Taiwan United News Network reported that Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense said on Tuesday midnight, August 2, that 21 Chinese warplanes made incursions into its air defense identification zone (ADIZ).
According to the Taiwanese Defense Ministry, these 21 aircraft include 8 J-11 fighter jets, 10 J-16 fighter jets, one KJ-500 airborne early warning and control aircraft, and one Y-9 electronic warfare, one Y-8 electronic intelligence aircraft.
As reported by the Taiwan Defense Agency, the group of Chinese planes flew southwest of the ADIZ, but no aircraft crossed the center line of the Taiwan Strait. Taiwan has issued warnings and deployed an air defense system, and given jets in response.
Political retaliation: China customs suspends imports from Taiwan
On Wednesday, the General Administration of Customs of China released an announcement suspending the import of citrus fruits, chilled white scallops, and frozen jack mackerel from Taiwan from August 3.
According to the notice, the Chinese customs authorities repeatedly detected the pests quarantine “Planococcus minor” in Taiwan’s citrus fruits and Fenthion and Dimethoate pesticide residues exceeding the standard last year. Additionally, the packaging of chilled white striped hairtail and frozen horse mackerel imported from Taiwan to China was found to be positive for the new coronavirus in June this year.
According to Liberty Times Net, Wang Meihui, a legislator of the Democratic Progressive Party, criticized China for intensifying its political retaliation against Taiwan. If there is no way to deal with the U.S, they will use this kind of small action to suppress Taiwan. Taiwan is ready and will not surrender ahead of China’s pressure increase.
