The terrible fire at the China Telecom building in Changsha city on September 16 has attracted much public attention. On the same day, in Changsha, there were two other fires that netizens were bad omens ahead of the 20th National Congress of the CCP. Related topics were quickly blocked on Weibo.

On September 16, a fire broke out at the state-owned telecommunications building China Telecom in the center of Changsha city. In the end, the wall on the front side of the building was completely burned, but the main body of the building was not damaged. Several videos of the scene have gone viral, and the raging blaze has raised questions about the official statement of “no casualties” by the authorities.

On the same day, Twitter account Worldview posted a video showing two fierce fires in two different locations in Changsha. Worldview said, “When the fire in the Changsha Telecom Building was still not extinguished, thick smoke was already coming out not far away.”

Some netizens in Changsha posted information saying that four fires broke out in Changsha on the same day. In addition to the Telecommunication Building and Xingsha international Logistics Park, there are various claims of fires on the internet, including Xiangya, Huaxia, Fuxing, and Kaifu Temple.

Netizens have speculated about the locations of the fires after observing smoke from different directions.

According to NetEase, many reporters checked the map and found that the locations of Xiangya, Huaxia, Fuxing, and Kaifu Temple had been reported. Internet notices are the same, and they are all in Kaifu District, Changsha.

After consulting with Changsha residents, reporters learned that a fire broke out at a waste recycling station in Kaifu District.

Twitter account Worldview posted a video and said, “Another fire is believed to be at a garbage station in Kaifu district.”

In addition to this Telecommunication building and recycling station, on the same day a fire broke out at Xingsha international Logistics Park on the east side of Kaiyuan East, Xingsha.

Chingsha Xingsha is located in the central west of Changsha County.

In just one day in Changsha, there were many fires, making many people feel it was a strange coincidence. Some netizens wondered that in the past, when the locality suffered from high temperatures, there were not so many fires—is someone deliberately setting fires? A Chinese netizen even posted criticism, “Isn’t that a gift for the 20th National Congress?”

The news spread on the international Twitter social platform, and it also caused heated discussions among netizens. Some speculated that the fires occurring on the same day and in the same city might be some kind of sacrificial service. Someone commented, “Smoke is everywhere, and (the CCP) is reaching a dead end,” according to NTDTV. Only a little more than two weeks to the 7th plenary meeting of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China on October 9, and on October 16, the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China will be held. This is a very sensitive time. Therefore, topics such as “Fire in Changsha telecommunications building” on Weibo were quickly blocked, and news of many fires in Changsha were also deleted.
