On October 11, an article with the words “Welcome to the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China” published by Tianjin No.1 funeral home aroused lively discussions. Some netizens thought this was nothing more than a curse on the eve of the congress, implying that the CCP’s apocalypse was approaching. The article has been removed from all mainland internet platforms.

On October 11, Tianjin No. 1 Funeral Home posted on the WeChat public account the article “Welcome to the 20th National Congress of the CCP and share a new future of the funeral service together.” The article said, “Welcome to the new dawn, we will begin a new journey. At the upcoming sacred moment of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, we look back at the past and look to the future. We believe that under the right leadership, Tianjin funeral home will usher in even greater glory tomorrow.”

The funeral home has linked the prosperity of the funeral industry to the Chinese Communist Party, which has led to many associations. The headline attracted many netizens’ comments. One netizen commented, “After the 20th Congress, the killing became more frenzied, the rich and powerful, foreigners, and street capitalists tried to kill more and more, even though the crematorium was in operation 24 hours, it was still  insufficient.”

Some netizens said that this is another big move by Tianjin City Party Secretary Li Hongzhong to show loyalty to the CCP.

Some netizens also explained that it was the Party Secretary of Tianjin Li Hongzhong breaking away from the CCP, commenting, “Shocking! Party Secretary Hongzhong jumped ship.”

There are also many netizens who think this is a curse, that the collapse of the Chinese Communist Party is approaching. Netizen “drift clock” said, “In some dialects, ‘Smooth funeral’ and ‘Communist funeral’ have the same pronunciation.” After causing controversy, the article welcoming the 20th National Congress of the CCP by Tianjin Funeral Home was removed from all mainland online platforms.
