CBS host Margaret Brennan interviewed the Chinese ambassador to the US, Qin Gang, on Sunday, March 20. The ambassador explained China’s position on the Ukraine issue.
Host Brennan asked why China has not condemned Russia’s deployment of 150,000 troops to its neighboring country’s border and its direct entry into Ukraine, which the UN Secretary-General deemed an invasion.
Qin Gang replied, “Don’t be naive! Condemnation–It doesn’t solve the problem. I would be surprised if Russia will back down by condemnation”.
He said that China has been urging peace and talks, calling for a ceasefire to stop the war, and will continue to do so. He affirmed that condemnation doesn’t help, but instead, “we need wisdom … We need courage, and we need good diplomacy”.
