German Finance Minister Christian Lindner, on Tuesday, March 29, made clear that China’s economic influence on Germany is not worth welcoming.

According to Bloomberg, Lindner said, “We have to recognize that we have an enormous risk. China doesn’t respect our social model, our understanding of liberality, our recognition of international law.”

He added, “Our trade relationship with China is almost a concentration risk for our economy. It may be a trading partner, but it’s also systemic rival.”

The remarks were made ahead of a video summit between the European Nation and Chinese leader Xi Jinping. The meeting was scheduled upon the knowledge that Beijing was allegedly planning to provide Russia with chips and other high-end tech supplies to help relieve the impact of the economic sanctions on Moscow.

The statements also underscored Germany’s switching stance with its most important trading partner since the Olaf Scholz administration took office.
